Technical Specifications: JT Sprockets & Drive Components

When it comes to the final drive of your motorcycle, precision is the difference between a smooth ride and a costly mechanical failure. At Cyclespot, we provide a comprehensive range of JT Sprockets, the world’s leading manufacturer of aftermarket sprockets, designed to meet or exceed OEM standards.

The JT Manufacturing Process

Every JT sprocket is manufactured using the correct grade of materials—C49 high-carbon steel for rear sprockets and SCM420 chromoly steel alloy for front sprockets. This ensures maximum durability and resistance to the abrasive NZ road and trail environments.

  • Precision Machining: Each sprocket is CNC machined to achieve the closest possible tolerances, ensuring a perfect fit on the output shaft and hub.
  • Heat Treatment: Induction hardening provides the ideal balance of surface hardness to prevent tyre-spinning power from wearing down the teeth, while maintaining a core tough enough to resist snapping under high torque.
  • Lightweight Design: Advanced scalloping and drill patterns reduce unsprung weight without compromising the structural integrity of the drive system.

Optimising Your Gearing Ratio

Changing your sprocket size is one of the most cost-effective ways to tune your bike's performance for specific New Zealand terrain:

Smaller Front / Larger Rear: Increased Torque & Acceleration = good for technical offroad trails or tight track work.

Larger Front / Smaller Rear: Higher Top Speed & Lower RPM = good open highway touring riding.

Maintenance & Fitment Tips

To ensure the longest life for your new JT Sprockets, we recommend the following:

  1. Always Replace as a Set: Never put a new sprocket on an old chain (or vice versa). Worn components will quickly ruin new parts.
  2. Chain Alignment: Improper alignment is the leading cause of premature sprocket hook-wear.
  3. Regular Lubrication: Especially in coastal regions like Auckland, regular cleaning and lubing prevent rust and friction-related heat buildup.
