The Science of Safety

Investing in motorcycle gear is about managing risk through high-quality protection. When building your kit, the order of priority should always begin with a high-quality helmet. As your most critical piece of equipment, a helmet must offer the correct fitment and safety certifications (like ECE 22.06) to protect against impact and abrasion.

Next in priority are gloves. In the event of a fall, your hands are instinctively the first thing to hit the tarmac; specialized motorcycle gloves provide essential palm sliders and knuckle protection. Following this, protective footwear is vital. Proper motorcycle boots or shoes prevent ankle crush injuries and provide the grip necessary for stable stops at New Zealand’s varied intersections.

Beyond the "big three," riders should consider jackets and trousers equipped with CE-rated armour and high-denier textiles or leather for slide protection. Modern safety features, such as integrated airbags and hi-vis reflective detailing, further enhance rider visibility and survival rates.
